SunRocket Shuts Down Their Affiliate Program

SunRocket Has Run Out of Money

There have been rumblings for a while that SunRocket might be on their last legs with the lay-off of 25% of their work-force, but now I have received notice that SunRocket has discounted their affiliate marketing program through affiliate network LinkShare. In addition to dis-continuing the program, SunRocket is unsure when or if they will be able to pay out any outstanding balances to their affiliate partners. It looks like they have indeed run out of money.

According to the email, “SunRocket maintains outstanding affiliate commissions for transactions made since March 2007. Based on the company’s current business situation, we are unable to determine if and when payment will be received. Until we can determine the status and capability of SunRocket to remit payment for orders referred by you and tracked through our network, we will not continue to allow any further transactions to occur. Again, this action by LinkShare is for the protection of all partnerships and to prevent any further debt to affiliates within our network.”>

I would be extremely scared if I were a SunRocket employee or customer of “what’s next”. Considering that affiliate programs have historically been one of the cheapest and most cost effective means of marketing a product online (since an affiliate only gets paid when they generate a sale for SunRocket) one has to wonder if they are getting ready to close up shop.Typically companies cut their highest-cost marketing channels first when going through major cost reductions…not one of the cheapest. If they are already to the point where they need to cut this program, they are in big big trouble.

We could see bankruptcy soon..

Here is the Entire Note

As of July 5, 2007, LinkShare placed the SunRocket affiliate program on “hold.” Currently, all SunRocket-LinkShare links are no longer functioning. This decision was made to protect both LinkShare as well as SunRocket’s affiliates.

We have been, and will continue to work diligently to secure payments for affiliates in a timely manner.

We apologize for any inconvenience this action may have brought you. Thank you for your work with LinkShare and this merchant. We hope that this situation will be resolved in a way that allows your hard work to be compensated appropriately.

We will provide further updates to you as soon as we can.
